How Gothic Music Has Changed.

How Gothic Music Has Changed.

Back in the 1980s there were some great Goth bands. Some of these are still recording, but there are a few that no longer exist.

Out of the bands that I am going to mention, there are quite a few whose members would be unhappy to be placed underneath the heading of ‘Goth’. The truth of it is though, that if an album goes out sounding ‘Goth’ then there is not a lot that you can do about it.

The most infamous of the bands to shun the genre is, ‘The Sisters of Mercy’. Andrew Eldritch appeared to be quite happy at one time to be known as ‘The Gothfather’ but things are very different now. Eldritch is a bit of a living paradox because everything that he has ever recorded is most definitely Gothic yet he is constantly rejecting the label.

Other brilliant groups that were recording in the eighties were, ‘Bauhaus’, ‘Siouxsie and The Banshees’ and ‘Joy Division’. There were many lesser known bands at the time as well such as, ‘James Ray’s Gangwar’, ‘The March Violets’ and ‘The Sex Gang Children’. There are still many others that I could mention and there were also some singers who flirted with the image before moving on to other things.

The Goth bands of today are not the same somehow. Back in the 80s there was a lot more mystery attached to the music and lyrics. Modern artists are more out to shock than they are to tickle the imagination.

I have changed the look on Lanson running’s Oregon pedometers page and the Mizuno running shoes page. Is it an improvement? Answers on the back of a postcode.
