My Love of ‘Classic Goth’.
Posted by admin in 1

A lot of people think that when you are a Goth it is a simple case of wearing black clothes and listening to Gothic Rock. Not true. These days there all kinds of different sub-categories that come under the umbrella term of ‘Goth’. The sort that I am into is the ‘Classic’ stuff of the eighties.
If my parents were Goths then this would have been the music that they had listened to in their teens. I’m not actually sure just how cool that would be… It’s a nice idea to think of your mum and dad being into the same kind of music as you, but when your friends come over it could be a little bit icky…
‘Classic Goth’ is stuff like; The Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, James Ray’s Gangwar and All About Eve. Those are just a few of the bands that I listen to; if it wasn’t for their music then the black candle of Goth would never have burnt for so long. Of course, there are many lesser known groups from back then as well, but many of them are all but impossible to track down today; even looking for their stuff online will bring you precious few results.
Image-wise I tend to dress like Siouxsie Sioux. I think she is brilliant and when the Banshees were in full swing she really did look good. Her style of eye make-up is still pretty iconic, even by today’s standards. The other Goth girl that I love to dress like is Patricia Morrison from The Sisters. It’s rumoured that she didn’t actually play any instruments and that Andrew Eldritch only employed her for the sexy image that she put across.
Two of my friends are into all of the classic stuff as well so there is always plenty for us to talk about. You see, being a Goth these days does not automatically mean that you have to listen to things like Marilyn Manson or Cradle of Filth… Thank goodness!
Before I go, everybody look at this Enigin Scam blog, it is wicked!
